History

Dedicated to Excellence

The Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home and Cremation Service has been locally owned and operated since 1873. The Nowack-Schmutzler Furniture and Undertaking Company was founded in Watertown in 1873 by Carl Nowack and Edward Schmutzler. The original location was at the corner of Fourth and Main Streets. Oscar Schmutzler joined his father in the business and in 1934, Oscar moved the funeral home to 721 North Fourth Street. Oscar''s three sons, Oscar, Jr., Donald, and Robert later joined the family business.

In 1986, Raymond Vick, Jr., joined the Schmutzlers as a partner and general manager of the funeral home. In 1991, the Hart Funeral Home in Marshall was purchased from Charles and Helen Hart, and is presently operated as Hart-Vick Funeral Home. In March of 1999, the Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home moved to a new facility at 500 Welsh Road in Watertown. The new facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art crematory, and the name has now been changed to Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
