Hilda Haney

April 16, 1922 — August 8, 2017

Hildy (as she was affectionately known by family and friends) was born in Brooklyn New York. The daughter of Frances and Joseph Greene. Hildy loved her older sisters Millie and Glady, and her little brother Artie. During WWII, Hildy had a chance meeting with a young handsome soldier in an ice cream shop . With his face smeared with hot fudge and a smile on his face, he saw the girl that would become his bride, his best friend, his heartbeat. Together they celebrated their marriage for 62 years before Freddie was called to play his trumpet with the angels. Hildy and Freddie moved to Watertown, Wisconsin, at the end of the war and began their family. Life as the mother of two little girls was a joy for Hildy. She always kept them at the center of her universe. Hildy shared her life experiences, advice, and immeasurable amounts of love with them. Not one to be a stay at home mom, she chose a career with G.B. Lewis Company, where she held the title of Executive Secretary to the President. She stayed with G.B. Lewis through several transitions and retired in 1987, her 30th year anniversary with the company. Life of retirement suited her. She became a world traveler and enjoyed vacations with her family. However, it was her role of Grandma that brought her more joy and happiness than she had ever known. Showering her grandchildren with the kind of love and pride only a grandma can. Her grandchildren were always the topic of her conversations, which she eagerly shared with her many friends and family members. Hildy was a true and loving person. She held you to a higher standard and made you better for it. Her life advice will never be forgotten. Hildy is survived by her two daughters, Meredith Haney of Watertown, Holly (Michael Bell) Haney of Oshkosh, grandchildren Jay (Angela) Stengel, Matthew (Alyssa) Bell and Mackenzie Bell, great-grandchildren Andrew and Ethan Stengel and many nieces and nephews. A private family celebration of her life is being planned.
